What is Fratelli Tutti?

Fratelli Tutti is an encyclical which is a papal letter sent to all bishops of the Roman Catholic Church.  In Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis highlights the importance of being united as a global community, especially during the crisis of a global pandemic.

The Encyclical, which comprises eight chapters, aims to promote this universal aspiration, advocating a change in politics to reject the ‘virus’ of political individualism and build up the common good. Pope Francis explains how the Covid-19 pandemic has helped demonstrate that ‘no one can face life in isolation’ and that the time has truly come to ‘dream, then, as a single human family’ in which we are ‘brothers and sisters all’.

Pope Francis has written a letter to everyone, asking us to reach out to our sisters and brothers in need, whoever they are, wherever they may come from. We are all challenged to think of ourselves as a single global family living in a common home, and neighbours to all.
