Reception Curriculum Overview

We use sequenced modules to activate prior learning, build on skills and deepen knowledge AND understanding. Learning, vocabulary and content is cumulative; content is learned, retrieved and built upon.

In Reception,  we have themes that aim to hook our children in and expose them to a wide range of experiences, we also support our children to take the learning into whichever direction they wish. During each theme, we aim to answer big questions, which will support us being active, independent, and resilient learners.

To see our Reception  curriculum overview please visit our dedicated EYFS  page: https://staugustines.npcat.org.uk/eyfs/

Reception Curricular Goals

Throughout our time in Reception we will play, explore, investigate and question to enable each of us to reach our Reception Goals. This is not our curriculum but are the key goals that will enable our children to go on to be curious, resilient and independent learners.

Reception Curricular Goals

Phonics

In Reception, we follow the synthetic phonics programme ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised’; this is a method of learning letter sounds and blending them together to read and write words.

Please follow the link to a useful parent PowerPoint that explains how we teach early reading in Reception.

Phonics & Early Reading

You can also access all documents and further information on the Little Wandle website:

Year 1 Scientists!🔎

As part of our Science learning, Year 1 explored our school grounds using magnifying glasses to practise their observation skills. We looked closely at the wonderful world around us and discovered lots of interesting things! 🍃🐞

Year 6 have already shown their brilliant leadership skills across school. Following our Missions and Values day last week, they went to classes across school and created informative presentations about how to live out our school mission and show our values. They created presentations, booklets, letters and performances. We were blown away by their creativity 👏🏻🙏🏼📢
