Teaching Staff

Our Reception class teachers are Mrs Burke and Miss Vanacore. We are supported by the wonderful Mrs Greenan.

Reception Curriculum Overview

We use sequenced modules to activate prior learning, build on skills and deepen knowledge AND understanding. Learning, vocabulary and content is cumulative; content is learned, retrieved and built upon.

In Reception,  we have themes that aim to hook our children in and expose them to a wide range of experiences, we also support our children to take the learning into whichever direction they wish. During each theme, we aim to answer big questions, which will support us being active, independent, and resilient learners.

PE Days

Reception has PE every Tuesday and Thursday. On PE days, children should come to school wearing their full PE kit – white t-shirt, black shorts and bottle green St. Augustine’s hoodie (plain black or navy hoodies are fine too).

Class Newsletter

Each term, you will receive a class newsletter detailing the wonderful teaching and learning happening in our class.

Reception Curricular Goals

Throughout our time in Reception we will play, explore, investigate and question to enable each of us to reach our Reception Goals. This is not our curriculum but are the key goals that will enable our children to go on to be curious, resilient and independent learners.

Phonics

In Reception, we follow the synthetic phonics programme Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised; this is a method of learning letter sounds and blending them together to read and write words.

Please follow the link to a useful parent Power Point that explains how we teach early reading in Reception.
